On Track - Wireless Sensor Networks

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is made up of distributed sensors that monitor vibration, pressure and motion and pass the data via a network to a main location. Through the use of WSN, Post Danmark and Commotive have together created a quality measurement of mailbox collections and fleet management that has saved Danish Post over €1 million since the project began in October 2010.

Post Danmark Boosts Mail-Collection Efficiency

The operator is using two-way 2.4 GHz radio transmission technology to track postal vehicles and mail pickup, in order to optimize routes, improve efficiency and reduce its vehicle fleet.

The Post Car Tells Everything

A small sender in the material – the so-called Commotive solution – has during autumn become part of the daily life in many places and has already provided a fantastic overview of how the vehicle fleet is exploited.

"In my opinion, the Commotive system is a unique opportunity for Post Danmark to both optimise and quality assure the
service we offer our customers.
At the same time, we are able to use our existing infrastructure of mailboxes, vehicles, buildings and equipment for a new business opportunity within the recovery of items. I see a wealth of opportunities for the new EU countries, which stand to benefit greatly from the potential the Commotive system offers the postal sector."
